Getting the Most from the Internet!

by Gary Jordan on May 14, 2009

In the summer of 1993 I discovered a magazine in a UK newsagents all about the Internet. I bought it out of curiousity and born was my love, some would say obsession, with the Internet. It didn’t take long before I was on-line through Demon Internet, using my faithful 14.4k modem. Those were the days when nobody knew what I was talking about! The Internet was for Geeks. It was not long after getting Internet access that I discovered Linux - another Geeky toy that no one had ever heard off.

Wind the clock forward to today and the Internet has taken over the world. We all take it for granted. Go on-line for the best insurance deal, book the next holiday, buy the latest book release from our favourite Author, download music through i-tunes! Blogging technology has transformed the way information is handled. Ordinary people are getting a website or blog, some just for fun while others have discovered that a good living can be made.

The only problem with all of this is that technology keeps moving forward. Have you heard of Web 2.0 or Cloud Computing? Probably not! If I mentioned that I have a number of Virtual Dedicated Servers for hosting my websites, would you understand? Do you want to join the revolution but find that there is information in abundance, but it never seems to be the complete picture?

Then welcome to my world. Welcome to Xinetiq - your source for information on the Internet and the World Wide Web. The intention is to create a resource for both beginners and professionals alike. The site will explain the basics of getting a web presence for the beginner, it will take the step upto owning and running your own Virtual or full Dedicated Server. Each step will be explained, the jargon explained. Want to step off the path and use VoIP, or a VPN for accessing your computer and services securely while abroad then welcome! Don’t understand the above acronyms - you will soon!

The site will review services available on the Internet and give detailed, honest, hands-on reviews. We will cover the technology in-depth with how-to’s and have links to other resources where required.

So welcome to XinetiQ. Remember that we are always happy to listen to your thoughts and ideas, and don’t forget to subsribe to our feed if you want to receive our articles.
